Here are five ways to make your fitness journey enjoyable:
1) Choose a day of the week to eat a small treat.
There are a lot of fun foods that won't derail your fitness goals. For example, choose a day of the week to eat a scoop of ice cream, a square of dark chocolate, vanilla yogurt, etc. People who periodically add higher calorie foods into their diet and then "get back on track," will be more successful in losing and maintaining their weight. A lifestyle change works best when you have something to look forward to each week!
2) Don't skip holidays!
Don't deprive yourself on holidays. The body needs caloric breaks. Instead of feeling left out when everyone else seems to be celebrating, enjoy yourself in moderation and then promise to get back on track. Don't skip your birthday, either. Have fun and then re-focus. You won't be disappointed and you will feel refreshed and ready to continue getting in shape.
3) Stretching is essential.
Find time each day to stretch, which will help you improve circulation, promote relaxation, loosen tight muscles, and enhance your balance. Stretching is a fun, low-impact way to stay youthful and strong.
4) Work with a family member or friend.
Find a fitness buddy who will be a source of support and will help keep you accountable. People who work out together usually achieve more impressive results than those who work out alone. Schedule cardio sessions together, share stories and laughter, and encourage each other to stay motivated.
5) Write in a fitness journal.
Be your own cheerleader! Jot down what you eat and make a record of your fitness routine, daily. Keeping track of your achievements will give you a sense of accomplishment and will be a therapeutic way to enjoy the progress you have made.
